Florida Community College at Jacksonville is dedicated
to the provision of a safe working and learning environment for all employees
and students. In order for
these
individuals to promptly report criminal actions or other emergencies, FCCJ
maintains a 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-per-week, security office at each
of its facilities. The College also has a special emergency telephone number,
ELK-HELP, manned 24 hours a day with direct radio contact to all College
security officers.
Sexual Assault — Sexual assault (rape) is a serious crime which has a major impact on the campus community as well as on the students who are victimized. FCCJ will not tolerate sexual assault in any form, including date and acquaintance sexual assault. Should probable cause be determined that campus regulations prohibiting sexual assault have been violated, disciplinary action will be pursued through the code of student conduct or other appropriate internal processes. Discipline may result in suspension or dismissal from the College. Any student or employee reporting a sexual assault will be treated with respect and sensitivity. Contacts and conversations which transpire pursuant to this procedure will be held in confidence. Individuals who believe they have been sexually assaulted and wish further information or assistance may contact the campus staff member designated to assist with sexual assaults. Any person wishing to file a complaint may contact a campus security office. Downtown Campus: 633-8200All reported cases will be referred to the crime prevention coordinator, 11 W. State Street, Room 123, telephone 632-3112. This office will discuss the matter with the student and make referrals as appropriate. The person reporting the incident may request to be kept anonymous. A report will be completed and forwarded to the director of equal access/equal opportunity, Downtown Campus, Room 1097, telephone 633-8250. Situations requiring immediate administrative support will be referred to the campus dean of student affairs. Employee complaints will be referred to the director of budget and human resources. Your compliance with the policies outlined above and in helping to prevent crime at FCCJ facilities is appreciated. Only with your help can a safe and secure working and learning environment be provided for all employees and students. The chart below indicates the number of occurrences for various types of crimes that have occurred on FCCJ facilities over the last three years. As required by the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1998, campus crime statistics are available at the safety and security department, 11 W. State Street, telephone 632-3112.
