2260C Advanced Coding for Medical Computer Program and Lab 3 Credit Hours
Prerequisites: HIM 1222 and HIM 1800. Corequisites: HIM 2283 and HIM 2810. This course is a continuation of ICD 9-CM Coding Principles and Lab. Emphasis will be on more rules that are complex and conventions for assigning codes, prioritizing codes, DRG assignments and reimbursement optimization. Students receive hands-on instruction in a medical office software program. Some functions taught include new patient entry, posting procedures and payments, insurance billing, and file maintenance.
