Crossover from Correctional Officer to Law Enforcement Officer (5676)

Vocational Certificate Program

This program is designed specifically to provide the training needed for Corrections Officers to transition to Law Enforcement officers by giving the students the basic knowledge and understanding required to satisfactorily perform the duties and responsibilities of the police patrol person.

Specific areas of instruction will include vehicle operations, patrol procedures, criminal investigation, police community relations, and traffic control. This instruction will build on the skills and knowledge they have already obtained through the corrections officer curriculum that they must have successfully completed in the past. The program is limited to Florida certified Corrections Officers and a valid driver’s license is required. To be eligible for this program students must score at 12th grade levels or higher in reading, mathematics and language on the state mandated Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Students scoring below these levels will be required to take the appropriate basic skills classes to assist in meeting these minimum levels.
