Industrial Management Technology (Hazardous Materials Technician) (2164)

Associate in Science or Associate in Applied Science

The Industrial Management Technology (Hazardous Materials Technician) program is designed to provide opportunities for those with experience in handling hazardous material to obtain an associate in science/ associate in applied science degree. Credit can be obtained through completion of the required degree courses and/or evaluation of military/industry training certificates. This program will instruct students in the proper handling and storage of hazardous materials as well as all the appropriate federal, state and local laws and regulations governing the transportation, storage and handling of the same. This program will cover the standards as put forth in OSHA 29CFR1910.120 HAZWOPER as well as the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and DOT regulations to name a few. Graduates of this program will be ready to assume positions as a Hazardous Material Technician in an industrial/ manufacturing environment.

Note: Students have two degree alternatives in this program: The associate in science (A.S.) and the associate in applied science (A.A.S.). If you intend to pursue further education at the university level, you should enroll in the A.S. option. If you intend to go directly to work after completing your associate’s degree, consider the A.A.S. While the A.A.S. will not provide you with the articulation benefits of the A.S., the A.A.S. will provide you with the skills required to begin working in the field immediately upon graduation. If you are unsure of which option is best for you, please see an advisor for further counseling.
