  Associate in Science Degree
  Nursing R.N. (2149)

The registered nurse is a member of the healthcare team who offers direct patient care, supervision of other members of the team, and teaching in collaboration with other members of the team. Nursing is the largest healthcare occupation, with over two million employed in the field. However, a critical shortage of nurses is predicted for the next ten years, due to currently employed nurses leaving the field. Thus, job opportunities in nursing are especially numerous. Registered nurses are employed with hospitals, physician's offices, clinics, government health departments, and in the home health industry. The associate in science degree nursing program is a combination of general education and professional courses including lecture, laboratory and clinical education components. Admission to the program is limited and is based on academic performance and other criteria.
