  Associate in Science Degree
  Nursing R.N. (Bridge Option for Licensed Practical Nurses) (2261)
   
  The registered nurse is a member of the healthcare team who offers direct patient care, supervision of other members of the team and teaching in collaboration with other members of the team. The associate in science degree nursing program's Bridge Option is limited to employed practical nurses with a current Florida license who have worked the equivalent of at least six months within the last two years (960 hours) as an LPN. The program is a combination of general education and professional courses including lecture, laboratory and clinical education components. Nurses are in high demand, as there is a critical shortage predicted for the next five to ten years. Nursing is the largest health care occupation, with over two million jobs. It is one of the ten occupations projected to have the largest number of new jobs in the next five years.
 
  Certification and Licensing:
Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX to become licensed as a registered nurse (RN).
 
  Requirements and Curriculum:
All required general education and professional courses except sociology or humanities must be completed before submitting an application to this program. A grade point average of at least 2.0 must be maintained.

  **A minimum grade of C is required in science courses. ***Students who qualify may substitute a higher-level mathematics course.
  A criminal history record check will be performed prior to clinical rotations. The Florida State Board of Nursing, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Nurse Practice Act, will determine a Nursing program graduate's eligibility for licensure when there is an arrest/conviction record. Convicted felons who have not had their civil rights restored are not eligible to take the National Council Licensure examination.
  It is recommended that students have a conference with the nursing adviser prior to applying to the nursing program. The associate in science degree program allows students to complete an associate's degree and become employed or pursue a bachelor's degree. See your advisor for details.
 
  Application Procedures:
To be considered as a qualified applicant, individuals must be eligible for continuance in FCCJ's associate in science degree nursing program.
1. Be accepted for admission to Florida Community College, be currently enrolled or a former student of FCCJ.
2. Be at least 17 years of age and have earned a high school dipoma or high school equivalency degree.
3. Have completed, by the application deadline, a college or high school course in chemistry with a grade of "C" or better.
(When using high school chem, an official high school transcript must be submitted with application.)
4. Have completed all required general education courses except sociology or humanities prior to the application deadline.
5. Have submitted current Psychological Services Bureau Revised Nursing Aptitude Exam (PSB-NAT) scores by the application deadline.
6. Provide evidence of current CPR certification (8 hr courses on adults, children and infants).
7. Provide evidence of licensure in the state of Florida as an LPN who has worked the equivalent of six month within the last two years as an LPN.
A physical exam will be required upon acceptance to the program.
