  Correctional Officer (5710)
   
  This program gives students a basic understanding of the duties and responsibilities of the line correctional officer. In addition, it gives the students an overview of the other related fields within the criminal justice system. Specific areas in which students will receive instruction include operational procedures, legal aspects of corrections, supervisory practices and related technical skills.

  Certification and Licensing:
Upon completion of the program, students must pass the state exam to be certified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission to work as correction officers in Florida.

  *Students who have satisfactory test scores are not required to take these courses.
   
  Upon successful completion of the law enforcement basic recruitment training students may receive up to 28 hours of college credit depending upon the program of study the student is enrolled in. CCJ 2488 must be taken before credit for the law enforcement academy will be given.
   
  At the discretion of the dean, a waiver of prerequisites for this course may be obtained at the request of an agency or based upon the classes needed of an out-of-state officer entering into the Florida certification program.
 
  Application Procedures:
As part of the application process, students are required to take and pass the Florida Basic Abilities Test (FBAT), a driving history check, physical agility testing, drug screening, health physical, medical examination, polygraph, back ground investigations and oral interview. Students must also be 19 years of age, have a valid drivers license, take the TABE test (10.0 required in all areas for completion), and be an American citizen.
