Telecommunication Engineering Technology (Converged Networks) trains and educates students in networks combining voice, video, and data systems. This program is designed primarily for information professionals with responsibility for design, implementation, or management of information systems. The program may also be appropriate for individuals in other professions, who wish to gain an understanding of IP telephony and video over IP networks.
The program focuses on hands-on, lab-based learning and is not at the engineering or theory level. Topics covered include traditional telephony systems, voice and video over IP, codes, quality of service, unified messaging, home integration, and other current topics in converged networks.
This selective access A.S./A.A.S degree program is designed to give a person with experience in general networking an in-depth understanding of converged networks. Students enrolling in this course should have a basic knowledge of network systems as gathered from work experience, college work, or self-learning, and an interest in exploring a growing and dynamic field. |

NOTE: You have two options in this program: the associate in science (A.S.) degree, which can prepare you for employment or transfer to a state university, and the associate in applied science (A.A.S.) degree, which is intended primarily for students who want immediate employment after graduation. If you choose the A.S. degree you must take MAC 1105, MGF 1106 or a higher level mathematics. The A.A.S. degree requires MAT 1033 or higher.
