This program provides job training to satisfactorily
perform the duties and responsibilities of the police officer.
Areas of instruction include constitutional and criminal law,
criminal evidence, court organization and procedures, patrol procedures,
criminal investigation, police community relations, traffic control,
juvenile procedures, civil disorders, first aid, defensive tactics
and firearms training.

Median annual earnings for law enforcement officers in 2002 were
$42,000.
As part of the application process, students
are required to take and pass the Florida Basic Abilities Test
(FBAT), a driving history check, drug screening, medical examination,
polygraph, background investigations, agility testing and oral
interview. Students also must be at least 19 years of age, have
a valid driver's license and be an American citizen. For more

Upon successful completion of the law enforcement basic recruitment
training, students may receive up to 28 hours of college credit
depending upon the program of study. To receive this credit, 9
credit hours must be successfully completed at Florida Community
College, including CCJ 2488 Ethics in Criminal Justice.
At the discretion of the dean, a waiver of prerequisites for this
course may be obtained at the request of an agency or based upon
the classes needed of an out-of-state officer entering into the
Florida certification program.
