Fire Fighter II (Fire Fighter I & II) (5720)
This is a selective access program. The Fire Fighter I & II program prepares students for certification
and initial employment as fire fighters in the state of Florida.
Successful program completion will qualify students to take the
state minimum standards written, oral and practical examination
as administered by the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training.
Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to
take the state firefighter exam.
Graduates of this program can continue into the Fire
Science Technology (Academy Track) A.S. program.
Applicants are required to attend an orientation. Passing scores on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) or an approved
waiver (associate degree or higher, by proof of official transcript stating degree awarded) must be presented at orientation.
Students who do not receive passing TABE scores may be referred to one or more classes such as VPI 0100, VPI 0200, or VPI
0030 for remediation and a referral to retest.
The dates for the next class and orientation are not set at this time. If you would like to be notified
once they are scheduled, please provide your name and mailing address so that you can be added to the mailing list. All
needed instructions and paperwork are explained and distributed at orientation.
Selected Entry Prerequisites Include:
- Driving history
- Drug screen
- Medical examination with EKG (form DI14-1022, formerly FST-2)
- Polygraph
- FDLE background investigations
- Physical ability testing
- Passing scores on the Test of Adult Basic
Education (TABE) or an approved waiver (associate degree or
higher by proof of official transcript)
- Official transcripts and copy of high school diploma or equivalency degree
- Notarized copy of statement of meeting minimum
requirements of a fire fighter in the state of Florida
- Valid drivers license
Applicants Must (only after acceptance to
the program):
- Submit fingerprint cards for proof of good
moral character.
- Have proof of medical insurance to remain
in force for the duration of the program.
- Have an application for Certification as
a Fire Fighter (Division
of State Fire Marshall Bureau of Fire Standards and Training).
The above documents shall be submitted to the Florida State
Fire College no later than ten days after class starts. Students
are responsible for submitting these documents and all expenses
that may be incurred.
The estimated cost for tuition and materials fees is $1,150 for Florida residents and $3,630 for non-Florida residents (as of 4/10/06). In addition, the student is responsible for any expenses incurred while fulfilling the prerequisites as well as the cost of required books, fire fighting equipment, and state processing fees.
