Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing (5606)
Working on a damaged car is like sculpting in metal. It requires an artistic eye and skilled
craftsmanship to make the crumpled mass look new again. It also requires a commitment to ongoing education to stay on top of
the ever-changing automotive industry. Each year manufacturers introduce new models with advances in structural and material
technologies. You have to keep learning to keep up.
Our automotive programs are designed to match industry advances in the latest technology and techniques.
You’ll learn to assess damage, suggest ways to repair it and accurately estimate the cost. You’ll apply new
techniques to repair structural and non-structural damage plus the proper way to create the perfect finish. You’ll
master precision equipment and tools. You’ll learn welding, metalwork, surface prep, painting and how to restore large
sections of the automobile.
Florida Community College’s labs are clean, air-conditioned, and stocked
with state-of-the-art tools. Our partnerships with industry leaders ensure we provide the best training available using the
latest technology in collision repair and refinishing.
Formal training in this field
will give you a competitive advantage in the job market. The Automotive program has a better than 90% immediate placement
record for graduates. Employers contact us daily for talented candidates. The opportunities for experienced auto body technicians are great. They can move into management,
represent a paint or automotive supply company, or work as an insurance adjuster, to name a few.
Entry-level salaries for auto body technicians average
$29,000 and often reach $48,000 within five years. Annual salaries ranging from $80,000 to $100,000 are not uncommon for
experienced and motivated technicians.
Students enrolled in this program may be required to enroll
in basic skills training. This will be determined by their scores on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Students
