Mold Assessment Specialist (6167)
The Mold Assessment Specialist Certificate will prepare those responsible for assessing mold infestation in homes and businesses, and will follow guidelines established by the State of Florida and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Graduates of this certificate program should be able to research applicable local, state and federal regulations and implement methods and strategies to ensure compliance in regard to mold remediation, mold assessment and indoor air quality; to maintain records as required by OSHA and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); to develop and implement hazardous materials handling procedures and to protect employees/workers/communities from hazardous material exposures.
The program focuses on regulations for environmental protection, worker health and safety. The purpose of this certificate is to provide and to enrich the
students basic skills, knowledge and abilities in the fields of environmental safety in regard to mold assessment. They will be instructed in supervising the analysis, handling and dispensing of hazardous materials in accordance with appropriate federal, state and local laws and regulations, as well as industry standards such as those included in the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) 29CFR1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Standard and the Clean Air Act.
Local corporate and governmental authorities participate on the Florida Community College advisory board for this program. Members include: CSX, JEA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Department of Transportation (DOT), the Army Corp of Engineers, St. Johns River Water Management District and others. Our environmental degree and certificate programs meet their anticipated employment needs.
Credit can be obtained through completion of the required degree courses and/or evaluation of military or corporate American Council on Education (ACE) academic registry transcripts. Applicable credits will be awarded after an evaluation of the appropriate ACE transcript for military or corporate training following the recommendations of the ACE Guide.
