Network Communications (VoIP) (6398)

Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP), is the technology that turns your computer into a telephone and the Internet your world-wide provider for phone calls, conference calling, call forwarding, call tracing, reminders and caller ID. Wherever you have a laptop, you have a telephone.

This is a selective access program. It incorporates the core courses from the Telecommunication Engineering Technology program and is designed for information professionals with prior degrees and/or experience in networking, and who wish to gain skills specific to converged networks. The program may also be appropriate for individuals in other professions who wish to gain an understanding of IP telephony and video over IP networks.

The program focuses on hands-on lab-based learning and is not at the engineering or theory level. Topics covered include traditional telephony systems, voice and video over IP, codes, quality of service, unified messaging, home integration and other relevant, current areas in converged networks. Students completing this program may continue in the Telecommunication Engineering Technology A.S./A.A.S. degree program and gain higher level converged networking skills.
