Automotive Service Technology (5609)
An automotive specialist is a specialist who knows how to diagnose, repair and maintain the ever-advancing computerized systems in today’s automobiles. The lack of qualified candidates has become so critical, our Automotive Service Technology program has partnered with local car dealerships and garages to address the shortage of qualified automotive technicians.
Your coursework in the Automotive program will include classroom theory and extensive hands-on lab application. You will use the latest technology and methods to locate, diagnose and repair problems. You’ll learn to properly service engines, automatic and manual transmissions, drive trains, automotive HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems, brakes, steering and suspension. Each course is designed to offer the training and information needed to pass ASE certification testing for the covered area.
Employers contact us daily for talented candidates. Many
are willing to hire students part-time while they are in school. It is possible to earn an income and gain on-the-job
experience while completing your education.
The job rate is expected to grow
as much as 20% annually. This certificate program prepares you for immediate employment. The Automotive program has a better
than 90% annual placement record for graduates.
Graduates with internship experience enter the field at
about $30,000 a year. Certified technicians with experience begin at about $40,000.
The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is a major criterion in a student’s completion of the program. Students who fail to meet the State of Florida’s designated exit score will be required to complete the Vocational Preparatory Instruction (VPI). In order to complete the program successfully, students must achieve or surpass the designated exit score(s). See Standards of Academic Progress.
Students in this program should be advised by the instructor or program manager before enrolling in courses.
Estimated cost of tuition is $3,492 (tuition rated for Florida residents, as
of 7/06). Contact the program manager for additional costs (materials, fees, textbooks).
