COP 1000 Introduction to Programming and Algorithm Design (Y) 3 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: MAT 1033 with a grade of "C" or better or satisfactory score on the mathematics placement test. This is an essential first course for data processing majors. It will introduce the fundamentals of computer usage, covering topics such as editor functions, files (batch and interactive) and program compilation and execution. Students will be taught algorithm design using structured flow chart and pseudo-coding techniques. The programming language Pascal will be introduced and used throughout the course to supplement the theoretical foundations that are being built. Four contact hours: three lecture hours, one laboratory hour.
