This course is designed to prepare interpreters for facilitating
communication between oral deaf persons and others. Oral transliteration
involves presenting spoken messages to the person who is deaf or hard of hearing
using inaudible speech and natural gestures and speaking in clearly articulated
English the message from the oral deaf person. The course will introduce
the rationale, theory and methods of oral transliteration. The knowledge
presented and skills practiced are designed to prepare the students for the
written test leading to certification as an Oral Transliterator by the National
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
