This course is a general survey on the most significant aspects of African-American history from its African origin to the present. Intellectual traditions, values, customs, cultural concepts, languages, art, music and dress forms are presented. Special focus will be directed toward the importance of African-American contributions, nationally and internationally. Different research perspectives of the enslavement processes that evolved are analyzed from pre-colonial periods to 1885 A.D. Major war events that include the active participation of African-Americans are also highlighted. Emphasis is given towards historical acts and trends of the cultural, economic, social and political implications as they relate to African-American experiences. Scientific statutes will be presented and evaluated in a contemporary cultural context. This course is concerned with bridging the gap of multi-perspective and attitudes in regard to multicultural and racial concerns. Three contact hours. A.A.
