This course is designed to prepare interpreters for facilitating communication between oral deaf persons and others. Oral transliteration involves presenting spoken messages to the person who is deaf or hard of hearing using inaudible speech and natural gestures, and speaking in clearly articulated English the message from the oral deaf person. The course will introduce the rationale, theory and methods of oral transliteration. The knowledge presented and skills practiced are designed to prepare the students for the written test leading to certification as an Oral Transliterator by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Three contact hours. A.S., A.A.S.
