Prerequisites: NUR 1110, NUR 1060C, NUR 1022C and NUR 1140. Corequisites: NUR 1823 and NUR 1524C. This course focuses on the essential knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for the nursing care of adult clients with medical and surgical conditions. Emphasis is placed on the following areas: common stressors and autoimmune disorders, altered regulatory mechanisms and nutritional problems, problems of elimination, and alterations of peripheral vascular function. Chronic illness and its management are also addressed. Selected clinical experiences will afford the students opportunities to apply theoretical concepts on clients in acute care, extended care, and/or community settings.
