Workforce Certificate

Fire Fighter II (Fire Fighter I & II) (5720)

This program prepares students for certification and initial employment as fire fighters in the state of Florida. Successful program completion will qualify students to take the state minimum standards written, oral and practical examination as administered by the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training.

Certification and Licensing
Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take the state firefighter exam.

Articulation
Graduates of this program can continue into the Fire Science Technology (Academy Track) A.S. program.

Application Procedure

Fire Fighter II (I & II) is a selective access program and admission into the program is based upon the following criteria. All needed instructions and paperwork are distributed at orientation. For more information call 904.646.2182.

Selected Entry Prerequisites:

  1. Driving history
  2. Drug screen
  3. Medical examination (form FST-2)
  4. Polygraph
  5. FDLE background investigations
  6. Physical ability testing
  7. Passing scores on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) or an approved waiver (associate degree or higher by proof of official transcript)
  8. High school diploma from an accredited high school or high school equivalency degree
  9. Notarized copy of statement of meeting minimum requirements of a fire fighter in the state of Florida
  10. Current First Responder certification and CPR card

Applicants Must (only after acceptance to the program):

  1. Have medical examinations on form FST-2 (see above).
  2. Submit fingerprint cards for proof of good moral character.
  3. Have proof of medical insurance to remain in force for the duration of the program.
  4. Have an application for Certification as a Fire Fighter (Division of State Fire Marshall Bureau of Fire Standards and Training).

    The above documents shall be submitted to the Florida State Fire College no later than ten days after class starts. Students are responsible for submitting these documents and all expenses that may be incurred.

FFP 0010 Fire Fighter I (225/7.5)
FFP 0020 Fire Fighter II (225/7.5)

Total Credit Hours: 450 contact hours/15 workforce credits

*Students who have satisfactory test scores are not required to take these courses.

Estimated tuition is $810. (for Florida residents, as of 7/04)
