Law Enforcement Officer (5744)
This program provides job training to satisfactorily
perform the duties and responsibilities of the police officer.
Areas of instruction include constitutional and criminal law,
criminal evidence, court organization and procedures, patrol procedures,
criminal investigation, police community relations, traffic control,
juvenile procedures, civil disorders, first aid, defensive tactics
and firearms training.
Growth in law enforcement is expected to be faster than the average;
job opportunities are expected to be excellent. Median annual earnings
for law enforcement officers in 2002 were $42,000.
As part of the application process, students
are required to take and pass the Florida Basic Abilities Test
(FBAT), a driving history check, drug screening, medical examination,
polygraph, criminal background investigations, agility testing and oral
interview. All students must have attained either a high school diploma or equivalency degree (certificates of completion are not acceptable). Students also
must be at least 19 years of age, have a valid drivers license

training, students may receive up to 34 hours of college credit
toward the
Criminal Justice Officer Administration (2139) associate
