Webmasters are the wizards of the World Wide Web. They are
responsible for the performance, speed of access, form and function of a Web site.
They design the overall link architecture, page contents, graphics and hyperlinks for
information and ease of navigation. Webmasters code HTML pages, keep sites current and
make certain all links are intact. They also coordinate previously unrelated company
data and reveal new consumer profiles that can turn browsing into buying.
The Webmaster/Web Development program prepares you for this
soaring career opportunity to design, develop, maintain, manage and administer
comprehensive Web sites. Our relationship with Microsoft’s Developer Network Academic
Alliance allows you to download a free, licensed copy of the operating systems, server
and developer applications, and programming languages taught in your classes.
Two technical certificates are included as options within this degree
program, Web Development Assistant and Web Development Specialist. Students may choose to pursue an A.S. or A.A.S. degree and earn technical certificates while completing the requirements for the degree, or pursue one or more certificate programs to develop or upgrade their skills in a particular field. Florida Community College helps facilitate a 180-hour internship as part of your
degree to provide work experience in Internet development.
The evolution of the WWW has created an unimaginable demand for webmasters. We offer
an intranet site posting jobs targeting FCCJ students, where you may also post your
resume and receive e-mails about job-related topics. Our graduates are regularly
employed by CSX, JEA, Blue Cross Blue Shield, the city of Jacksonville, Medtronic,
Mayo Clinic and other regional employers, including the government and military.
Starting salaries for Jacksonville average $40,000–45,000, the Florida average
is $52,390 and the national average is $63,030.
Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared for the Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) exam, as well as several certifications through the World Organization of Webmasters (WOW).

Requirements.
You have two options in this program: the associate in science (A.S.) degree, which can prepare you for
employment or transfer to a state university, and the associate in applied science (A.A.S.) degree, which is intended
primarily for students who want immediate employment after graduation. If you choose the A.S. degree you must take MAC 1105,
MGF 1106 or a higher level mathematics course. If you choose the A.A.S. degree must take MAT 1033 or a higher level
