Criminal Justice Technology (2239)
Criminal justice technologists could be described as the social scientists of the legal system. They are crime analysts, compliance officers, crime prevention specialists, domestic violence counselors, probation and parole officers, and private investigators. Many work in juvenile justice, State Attorney’s offices and local police agencies.
Florida Community College partners with an involved advisory committee of leaders in the law enforcement community in both Duval and Nassau counties as the Northeast Regional Criminal Justice Training Center. This
assures that students will receive modern, up-to-date instruction
that is relevant to current practices in the field. The program combines a degree with certification as either a police or correctional officer, and positions you for advancement to supervisor. Your coursework combines general education with professional courses, while electives offer further concentration in your area of interest. Class are taught by criminal justice professionals at the North and South campuses, and are available days and evenings.
Andrew Jackson High School’s Criminal Justice Magnet Program offers dual enrollment to work toward the A.S. or A.A.S. degree.
The Criminal Justice Bio-Terrorism course is recommended for a basic understanding of terrorism strategies, biological and chemical toxins, and methods that identify and neutralize terrorist groups and tactics.
This program is part of the FCCJ Co-op/Internship Opportunities Program. Your internship gives you first hand experience, college credits, a professional resume, as well as networking contacts and references. You’ll shadow patrol, homicide, burglary, special victims and crime scene investigation (CSI) units, and witness courtroom procedures from testimony to arrest. Find
out how the internship can earn you both college credit and experience.
This degree provides the opportunity to work within the various criminal justice agencies as counselors, intake specialists, clerks and other positions that support the operations. Twice a year, open house recruitment fairs allow you to apply for programs and positions with numerous local and state agencies, as well as the FBI.
Entry level salaries for range from $28,000-$36,000 for entry level positions.
Graduates of this A.S. program may articulate into a bachelor’s
in criminal justice program at any state of Florida public

in criminal justice administration program at Columbia

Education Requirements.
You have two options in this program: the associate in science
(A.S.) degree, which can prepare you for employment or transfer
to a state university, and the associate in applied science (A.A.S.)
degree, which is intended primarily for students who want immediate
employment after graduation. If you choose the A.S. degree you
must take MAC 1105, MGF 1106 or a higher level mathematics. The
A.A.S. degree requires MAT 1033 or higher. Please see an advisor
to determine the option that is best for you.
If the students enroll in an internship or cooperative education class and are seeking experience at a law enforcement
agency or facility under Children and Family Services, then a background check is performed by the law enforcement agency or
facility and the student may be denied employment (paid or non-paid) based on their criminal record.
