Dealer Specific Automotive Technology (GM-ASEP) (223A)
There is nothing more critical to the automotive industry than technicians trained to service today’s
complex automobile systems. In fact, the need for educated professionals is so great, General Motors created the Automotive
Service Educational Program (ASEP) to bring automotive students together with GM dealerships.
Only about 80 of the nation’s colleges and universities meet GM’s requirements for ASEP. Among
them is Florida Community College. This program’s sole purpose is to upgrade technical competency of incoming
dealership technicians and prepare those technicians for the rewarding opportunities in this growing field. You will train
on GM vehicles and components in a closely supervised and structured environment. The coursework includes classroom theory
that is then applied in our state-of-the-art labs. You will learn to master current diagnostic technology and build your
analytical and technical skills in automotive service and repair.
GM’s continued commitment to identify and support GM-ASEP colleges and
universities has produced over 13,000 service technicians who graduate with the highest level of training and a prestigious
advantage in the job market.
The two-year program allows you to alternate between
attending college and working at a GM, Saturn or Saab dealership. You will earn your associate degree along with an income
and on-the-job experience.
We will help you identify
potential employers so that you can secure a position with a participating GM, Saturn or Saab dealership that will allow you
to be a part of this program.
Graduates with an A.S or A.A.S. degree, intern
experience and an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) industry certification earn entry pay levels ranging from $30,000 to
$40,000 a year.
As a GM-ASEP college, we are certified by the National
Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), ensuring that the training you receive meets or exceeds
industry-developed standards. Graduates of this program will earn the GM Training Certificate
and will be qualified to take the ASE certification
examination.

You have two options in this program: the associate in science
(A.S.) degree, which can prepare you for employment or transfer
to a state university, and the associate in applied science (A.A.S.)
degree, which is intended primarily for students who want immediate
employment after graduation. If you choose the A.S. degree you
must take MAC 1105, MGF 1106 or a higher level mathematics. The
A.A.S. degree requires MAT 1033 or higher. Please see an advisor
