Graphic Design Technology (2267)

The graphic design curriculum has a prescribed sequence providing a balance between theory and practical application of graphic design. The College curriculum stresses diversity in the courses a student takes; general education requirements are taken alongside graphic design courses in typography, design methodologies and computer technologies.

The intention of the Graphic Design program is to provide a foundation upon which perceptual skills in design alternatives are investigated and a resource for a greater understanding and general knowledge of the profession. The beginning sequence of classes provides experience in conceptualizing and visualization using a variety of media and tools including computer technologies. In addition, advanced levels present communication problems through different problem-solving situations investigating the functional relationship of identity, information and persuasion. Throughout the program, the study of type and typography is investigated in terms of its aesthetic and functional possibilities within this problem-solving process.

A technical certificate is included as an option within this degree program. Students may choose to pursue an A.S. or A.A.S. degree and earn technical certificates while completing the requirements for the degree, or pursue one or more certificate programs to develop or upgrade their skills in a particular field. An internship experience is provided with this associates degree to allow students to gain work experience. Contact an advisor or counselor to determine the career education path that is best for you.
