Crossover from Correctional Probation Officer to Law
Enforcement Officer (5310)
This program provides the credentials you need to transition from Correctional Probation Officer to Law Enforcement. Access is limited to current Florida certified correctional probation officers. The core curriculum complements the experience and expertise you already have with additional training in constitutional and
criminal law, criminal evidence, court organization and procedures, patrol procedures, criminal investigation, police
community relations, traffic control, juvenile procedures, civil disorders and firearms training.
Florida Community College partners with an involved advisory committee of leaders in the law enforcement community for both Duval and Nassau County as the Northeast Regional Criminal Justice Training Center.
The scenario-based facility is among the best in the world. It has a track for fast driving in wet conditions and speed chases, live-fire training, a diving tank for search and rescue training, a mock courtroom, an interview room with one-way glass and jail cells. You learn to process inmates, put them into restraints and experience behaviors you are likely to encounter.
By the year 2014, law enforcement will add 145,000 new officers and agents.
Twice a year, open house recruitment fairs allow you to apply for programs and positions with numerous agencies.
Police officers average $36,000 annually.
Completion of the program makes you eligible to sit for the State of Florida Law Enforcement exam.
Your work force credits may apply toward the Criminal Justice Technology associate degree program.
As part of the application process, students are required to:
- Have completed the Correctional Probation Basic Recruit Training Program
- Take and pass the Florida Basic Abilities Test (FBAT)
- Have a driving history check
- Pass drug screening
- Have agility testing and medical examination
- Pass polygraph and background investigations
- Oral interview
Estimated tuition is $1,106 (for Florida residents as of 7/06). Contact
the program manager for additional costs (textbooks, materials, fees).

If the students enroll in an internship or cooperative education class and are seeking experience at a law enforcement agency or facility
under Children and Family Services then a background check is performed by the law enforcement agency or facility and the student may be
denied employment (paid or non-paid) based on their criminal record.
