Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating Systems Technology (A120)
Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) may be the most complex part of the construction
process. HVAC systems integrate mechanical, electrical, and electronic motors, compressors, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes and
thermostats that operate with the flick of a switch or the touch of a panel. Refrigeration systems for the shipping and
storage of food, medicine and other perishable items have become an industry vital to international trade and homeland
security.
The Florida Community College HVAC/R program is the best of
its kind. Along with classroom learning,
youll work in labs. Instead of watching demonstrations, students use state-of-the-art training boards to diagnose and correct system problems. Youll become skilled in the installation of multiple-fuel systems, and learn to connect fuel and water supply lines, air ducts, vents, pumps, electrical wiring and controls. Youll master combustion analyzers as well as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and oxygen testers that monitor ozone depletion and air quality.
Two technical certificates, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration
and Heating Systems Technician and Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and
Heating Systems Assistant, are included as options within this degree program. Students may choose to pursue an A.A.S. degree
and earn technical certificates while completing the requirements for the degree, or pursue one or more certificate programs to

goes without a job.
Youll have the opportunity to network with major contractors and become employed while
youre still in school. We also refer you for internships and job interviews. Florida Community Colleges Building
Construction program has a long-standing relationship with
this regions major industry organizations, such as Woods Engineering, C. Young Construction, Superior Construction,
Paul Fraser Homes, Stellar Group, C & C Powerlines, Dickey Smith & Company, Miatt Construction and Accubuild
Construction.
Members of the Northeast Florida Builders Association serve on our Construction Management Advisory Council
and on advisory committees for all trades, as well as provide internships and fund annual scholarships. The advisory
committees provide leadership, support and guidance for the program and support such educational activities as constructing
residential projects from design to move in.
Starting salaries range from $16 to $20 an hour. Overtime, bonuses, rapid advancement and opportunities for self-employment
can rapidly increase your income.
All courses are directly applicable to Florida Community Colleges HVAC specialty track in the Building
Construction Technology A.S. degree.
