TPA 2218 Welding Techniques for Scenery Construction — 3 Credit Hours

Prerequisite: TPA 1210. This is a studio course that introduces the basic equipment, materials and techniques required for the cutting and welding of metals used in scenery construction. This course is designed to familiarize students with the various welding processes used in theatrical welding and give the basic knowledge and skills to perform satisfactory welds using each process. The processes covered will include Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW). Students will be required to weld lap, butt and filet joints in the flat and horizontal positions. Oxyacetylene and plasma cutting will also be covered. Safety and proper use of equipment will be emphasized in the instruction of each technique. The instruction will be individualized, and will consist of classroom instruction and laboratory assignments. Students will use information contained in the textbook, and instructions with demonstrations by the instructor to complete the assignments. Students must purchase the textbook and all personal equipment. Three contact hours. A.A., A.S., A.A.S.
