Network Services Technology
The Networking Services Technology program is for individuals interested in beginning or advancing a career in computer/network support. Computer and network support work involves installing, configuring, repairing, and managing computer and network hardware and software. It requires both hands-on skills and knowledge of theory and concepts. Because network technology is constantly changing and evolving, learning in this field never ends. The emphasis of the program is on teaching students a broad base of skills and knowledge in network and systems administration while also allowing the flexibility for students to pursue individual interests and specialties. With the ever-changing demands of the technology job market, this broad background and flexibility increases career opportunities available to graduates.
There are four options within this program:
Students may choose to pursue an A.S. or A.A.S. degree and earn technical certificates while completing the requirements for the degree, or pursue one or more certificate programs to develop or upgrade their skills in a particular field. Network Services Technology (2145)
If you want to join a dynamic
technology team as a microcomputer technician or desktop support specialist,
the Network Administrator program is a great way to start. You’ll learn the
basic skills and knowledge required to administer networks in Microsoft, Linux
and Cisco environments.
The program can be a stepping
stone to industry-recognized certifications including the CompTIA A+
Microcomputer Technician and Network+ Network Technician, Microsoft Certified
Systems Administrator (MCSA), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and
various Linux certifications.
You may take advantage of
credit-by-certification which allows you to skip courses and receive credit for
equivalent certifications already attained. Once you have completed the core
requirements of the program, you are free to choose your remaining classes from
a vast array of technology offerings at Florida Community College.
A 180-hour internship is a required part of this degree program.
FCCJ is the regional resource for employers in every type of technology. Our
partnerships with Cisco Systems, Dell, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle and Sun Microsystems
provide career connections. An FCCJ intranet site posts jobs targeting our students.
Graduates are regularly employed by CSX, JEA, Blue Cross Blue Shield, the City of
Jacksonville, Medtronic, Mayo Clinic and other regional employers including the
government and military.
Two technical certificates are included as options
within this degree program: Information Technology Technician
(Desktop Support) and Information Technology Management (Systems Administrator). Students may choose to pursue this A.S.
or A.A.S. degree and earn technical certificates while completing
the requirements for the degree, or pursue one or more certificate
programs to develop or upgrade their skills in a particular field.

Starting annual salaries for Jacksonville average $35,000 – $40,000, the Florida
average is $57,021 and the national average is $58,480.
After completing the program, students can pursue industry-recognized
certifications such as CompTIA’s A+ Microcomputer Technician
and Network+ Network Technician certifications, Microsoft’s Certified
Systems Administrator (MCSA) certification, Cisco’s Certified
Network Associate (CCNA) certification, and various Linux certifications.

**If Cisco Academy courses 1 through 4 are taken, CET 2610 and CET 2620 will be substituted for the CEN 1527 and CEN 1528 requirements.
CET 2600 and CET 2615 will be applied toward the professional electives
requirement.
***CGS 1570 may be substituted for CGS 1060 or CGS 1100.
You have two options in this program: the associate in science
(A.S.) degree, which can prepare you for employment or transfer
to a state university, and the associate in applied science
(A.A.S.) degree, which is intended primarily for students who
want immediate employment after graduation. If you choose the
A.S. degree you must take MAC 1105, MGF 1106 or a higher level
mathematics. The A.A.S. degree requires MAT 1033 or higher. Please see an advisor to determine the option that is best for you.
