Computer Engineering Technology (Cisco CCNP Technician)

The Cisco CCNP Technician subspecialty of the Computer Engineering Technology degree program emphasizes networking and internetworking, and includes the eight courses in the Cisco Networking Academy. Core classes are in computer repair, operating systems and basic networking. The program also emphasizes hands-on instruction with industry-standard equipment. The Cisco CCNP Technician subspecialty also will prepare you for Cisco’s CCNA and CCNP certification exams.

There are four options within this program:

Students may choose to pursue an A.A.S. degree and earn technical certificates while completing the requirements for the degree, or pursue one or more certificate field. Contact and advisor or counselor to determine the career education path that is best for you.

Students may complete a degree in only one of the two specialty tracks, Cisco CCNP or Computer Technicians. Students who whish to add a second area of specialization after completing a degree should pursue a technical certificate in that area.

Students who have completed the Network Support Services certificate program may apply to have their coursework evaluated for college credit and applied to these programs.

Computer Specialist (Cisco CCNP) (6275)

Technical Certificate

This program includes the eight courses required for the first two levels of Cisco certification, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and Security+. After earning your certificate, you will be well prepared to sit for the CCNA and CCNP exams. These respected certifications are highly valued by employers who hire individuals to install and maintain computer networks, from large corporations with their own networking departments to small networking contractors. Students completing this program may continue in the Computer Engineering Technology (Cisco CCNP) A.A.S. degree program in order to gain higher level Cisco networking skills.

The coursework emphasizes hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment. Work experience or prior course work in computer repair and configuration is recommended for students entering this program. Students who already possess CCNA certification may receive credit for the first four courses in the program.

Annual Salaries

Annual salaries can be as much as $61,000.

Certification and Licensing

Students who already possess CCNA certification may receive credit for the first four courses in the program. Completing this program will prepare you for the CCNA and CCNP exams.

Articulations

Students completing this program may continue in the Computer Engineering Technology (Cisco CCNP Technician) A.A.S. degree program in order to gain higher level Cisco networking skills.
