Computer Forensics Specialist (6937)

Technical Certificate

Computer forensics is a new and burgeoning field of investigation. Computer forensic specialists are employed in law enforcement agencies, both local and federal, in corporations and in small businesses. The techniques and procedures used by the computer forensic specialist are similar but differ from physical forensics. The specialist must recover data that has been electronically stored on digital media. In many circumstances, the data may be used as evidence in court proceedings and must be handled in an evidentiary secure manner. The rules and procedures concerning chain-of-custody must be strictly obeyed.

The Computer Forensics Specialist curriculum prepares the student for a career in the field of data forensics. The student is introduced to the legal concepts of criminology and criminal evidence and procedure. The program delivers a solid foundation in computer hardware and peripherals. The course of study prepares the candidate to sit for the Certified Information Security Professional (CISSP) and Security+ examinations. Students completing this program may continue in the Computer Engineering Technology (Cisco CCNP) A.A.S. degree program in order to gain higher level Cisco networking skills.
