Computer Information Administrator (Help Desk and Technical Support) (2268)
Anyone who ever crashed a hard drive, forgot a password or had a computer glitch knows the value of the help desk and technical support. They are the experts who talk us through the problem.
The Computer Information Technology (Help Desk and Technical Support) program gives you extensive training and experience in computer hardware, software, technical support, problem solving at the highest levels of customer service and support. You will learn to troubleshoot and restore routine technical service and equipment troubles by analyzing, identifying and diagnosing errors, using established processes and procedures. You will also learn how to document events using database systems and track resolution of problems.
Two technical certificates are included as options within this
degree program,
Information Technology Support Specialist and
Information
Technology Analysis. Students may choose to pursue this A.S. or A.A.S. degree
and earn technical certificates while completing the requirements for the degree,
or pursue one or more certificate programs to develop or upgrade their skills in
a particular field. Contact an advisor or counselor to determine the career

A 180-hour internship experience is provided as part of this program.
Help desk and technical support are among the fastest growing computer occupations. Our partnerships with Cisco Systems, Dell, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle and Sun Microsystems provide career connections. An FCCJ intranet site posts jobs targeting our students. Our graduates are regularly employed by CSX, JEA, Blue Cross Blue Shield, the City of Jacksonville, Medtronic, Mayo Clinic and other regional employers including the government and military.
Starting salaries for Jacksonville average $32,000 - $35,000; the Florida average is $34,420; and the national average is $42,329.
Completion of this program prepares students for the Helpdesk Institute (HDI) certification.

Requirements.
You have two options in this program:
the associate in science (A.S.) degree, which can prepare you
for employment or transfer to a state university, and the associate
in applied science (A.A.S.) degree, which is intended primarily
for students who want immediate employment after graduation. If you choose the A.S. degree you must take MAC 1105, MGF 1106 or a higher
level mathematics course. If you choose the A.A.S. degree must take MAT 1033
