Crossover from Correctional Probation Officer to Law Enforcement Officer (5754)

Workforce Certificate

This program provides job training to satisfactorily perform the duties and responsibilities of a police officer. Areas of instruction include constitutional and criminal law, criminal evidence, court organization and procedures, patrol procedures, criminal investigation, police community relations, traffic control, juvenile procedures, civil disorders, and firearms training.

Note: In addition to the membership application above (“Apply for this Program Now”), students must also follow the Application Procedure for this program.

Application Process

As part of the application process, students are required to take and pass the Florida Basic Abilities Test (FBAT), a driving history check, drug screening, medical examination, polygraph, background investigations, agility testing and oral interview. Students also must have completed the Correctional Probation Basic Recruit Training program. For more information call 904.713.4900.

Career Opportunities, Rapid Placement

By the year 2014, law enforcement will add 145,000 new officers and agents. Twice a year, open house recruitment fairs allow you to apply for programs and positions with numerous agencies.

Annual Salaries

Police officers average $36,000 annually.

Certification

Completion of the program makes you eligible to sit for the State of Florida Law Enforcement exam.

Articulation

Your work force credits may apply toward the Criminal Justice Technology associate degree program.

Record of Conviction of a Crime

If the students enroll in an internship or cooperative education class and are seeking experience at a law enforcement agency or facility under Children and Family Services, then a background check is performed by the law enforcement agency or facility, and the student may be denied employment (paid or non–paid) based on their criminal record.
