PHT 1120C Functional Anatomy and Kinesiology — 6 Credit Hours

Prerequisites: BSC 2085C, BSC 2086C, MAC 1105, PHY 1020C and admission to the PTA program. Corequisites: PHT 1000C and PHT 1200. This course presents an in-depth study of the structure and function of the musculoskeletal system. Attention is focused on a knowledge and understanding of the mechanical aspects of human motion. Kinesiology, as it relates to the function of the musculoskeletal system during therapeutic exercise, functional movement patterns and loco motion is emphasized. Manual muscle testing and goniometry are introduced and examined. A laboratory component provides students an opportunity to apply and practice concepts presented in the lecture segment of this course. Manual muscle testing, goniometry, palpation and observational and analyzation skills with regards to posture, functional movement patterns of the trunk and extremities, therapeutic exercise and locomotion are addressed. Nine contact hours: two lecture hours, seven laboratory hours. A.S., A.A.S.
