Avionics (Avionics Technician) (5900)
A selective admission program
This program provides you with the skills necessary to install and repair avionics systems in commercial and general aviation aircraft. The aviation industry has indicated that it needs highly-skilled technicians who possess the knowledge of installing, repairing and testing avionics equipment and avionics systems. This course is designed as a study of the troubleshooting, repair and installation processes of modern avionics systems, such as VHF communications and navigation, Global Positioning Systems, radar, display systems, autopilots and others. Students will receive hands-on experience in the repair and installation of avionics systems, fabrication of electrical harnesses, and testing of systems after installation. After completion of this program of study, students will be prepared for successful completion of the FCC General Radiotelephone Operator’s License examination (Elements 1, 3 and 8).

Requirements for entrance into the program include:
- Completion of Airframe and Powerplant training or FAA A&P Certificate, or
- Previous electronics training,* or
- Previous documented avionics industry work experience, or
- Electronics degree or electronics experience.
*The following Florida Community College courses will provide the necessary electronics competencies: EEV 0271, EEV 0811, EEV 0812, EEV 0813, EEV 0814, EEV 0815 and EEV 0816.
All students are required to take the TABE exams prior to enrolling in this program unless you currently possess an A.A., A.S. or
bachelor’s degree.
The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is a major criterion in a student’s completion of the program. Students who fail to meet the State of Florida’s designated exit score will be required to complete the Vocational Preparatory Instruction (VPI). In order to complete the program successfully, students must achieve or surpass the designated exit score(s). See Standards of Academic Progress.
