This course is designed to provide the student with an understanding of basic principles involved in the recognition of material which is hazardous because of combustibility, toxicity or reactivity. Study concerns pyrophoric metals, hypergolics, cryogenic, and pesticides as well as the more common materials and chemicals. Emphasis is placed on methods to recognize hazardous materials in the field. Sources of information relative to safe handling of materials and extinguishing associated fires are studied. This course is based on the National Fire Academys Site Operating Practices program. Three contact hours. A.S., A.A.S.
