Computer Engineering Technology (Computer Technician) (A173)

Like a high-tech SWAT Team, well-trained computer technicians are fully loaded with the unique skills needed to install, configure and troubleshoot the complex operating systems and basic networks that keep the rest of us wired, wireless and connected.

The Computer Engineer Technology program focuses on diagnostic analyses, repairs, team problem solving in a business environment and customer support. There is an emphasis on hands-on instruction with industry-standard equipment. Electives in other platforms, hardware and operating systems also prepare you for certification exams in A+, Network+ and various Microsoft certification exams.

A technical certificate, Microcomputer Repairer/Installer, is included as an option within this degree program. Students may choose to pursue an A.A.S. degree and earn technical certificates while completing the requirements for the degree, or pursue one or more certificate programs to develop or upgrade their skills in a particular field. Students may complete a degree in only one of the two specialty tracks, Cisco CCNP or Computer Technician. Students who wish to add a second area of specialization after completing a degree should pursue a technical certificate in that area.

Students who have completed the Computer Support Technician or the Network Support Services workforce certificate programs may apply to have their coursework evaluated for college credit and applied to these programs. Contact an advisor or counselor to determine the career education path that is best for you.

Florida Community College partners with manufacturers and employers to develop a workforce certified by Oracle, Microsoft and Cisco. Programs are designed to match industry demands and provide intensive hands-on experience to ensure you’re ready for the job.
