This course is designed with knowledge-based, performance-based and intern-based skills identified as standards for the automotive industry. Topics will include the automotive industry today, the changes in the industry and the advanced technology used in todays vehicles. Information is provided on career opportunities, job classification, ASE certification, safety in the automotive shop, and manual and electronic service information systems. General automotive component identification, shop equipment and tool use will be discussed and put into practice in the shop environment. The knowledge skills represent theory of the topics and support the mastery of the performance-based skills for this topic. Twenty contact hours: fifteen lecture hours, five laboratory hours.
