This course is designed with knowledge-based, performance-based and intern-based skills identified as standards for the automotive industry. Topics will include theory, operation and diagnosis of base engine components and internal failures affecting engine performance. Included are intake and exhaust, air management and internal engine performance. Performance skills include compression, leak down, exhaust and intake testing in support of engine diagnostics. The knowledge skills represent theory of the topics and support the mastery of the performance-based skills for this topic. Twenty-two and one-half contact hours: fifteen lecture hours, seven and one-half laboratory hours. A.S., A.A.S.
