Prerequisite: AER 1003. This course is designed with knowledge-based, performance-based and intern-based skills identified as standards for the automotive industry. Topics will include understanding the mechanical and hydraulic functions of the automotive/light truck brake systems. Basic electrical circuit testing will lead into battery, starting and charging system theory and diagnosis. Supple mental restraint systems will be discussed and then applied to manufacturers procedures for disabling the inflatable restraint system prior to performing maintenance on a vehicle. The safe handling of inflatable restraints will be stressed. The knowledge skills represent theory of the topics and support the mastery of the performance-based skills for this topic. Twenty contact hours: five lecture hours, fifteen laboratory hours. A.S., A.A.S.
